Juried Fine Artist Competition at Puyallup Fair Has Deadline of August 11-13, 2009
Separate Competition Theme This Year is “Spirit of Rodeo”
Puyallup, WA, June 26, 2009 – Fine artists love to have their works enjoyed by the public, and the juried Fine Art Show at the Puyallup Fair is the ideal place to showcase their works. Entries are due August 11-13. A total of $4,300 will be awarded to entry winners in the following categories: water media, oils, drawing, mixed media, sculpture, computer art and miniature.
This year’s separate special competition is open for all categories except Miniature. The judges are looking for the best artistic expression that depicts the “Spirit of Rodeo”. A prize of $250 will be awarded.
Original art will be accepted on three days: Tuesday, August 11 from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.; Wednesday, August 12 from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.; and Thursday, August 13 from 2 p.m. – 8 p.m.. Artwork must be delivered to the Pavilion, second floor. Walk-in entries are preferred. Free parking is offered in the Gold Parking Lot at 9th Avenue SW and Meridian, and enter through the Gold Gate. Or, drive in through the Gold Gate, with a one hour parking limit.
The categories include:
Water Media:
Watercolors, acrylics, Sumi-e. Acrylic entries must be done in watercolor techniques.
Oils:
Oils and acrylics. Acrylic entries must be done in oil techniques.
Drawing:
Pen/Ink, pencils, charcoal, pastels, etc.
Mixed Media:
Collage, montage, lithograph, batik, assemblages (incased) or one of a kind original prints, for example: mono prints, etching reduction printing and lithographs. No machine or photo copies.
Sculpture:
Three-dimensional artwork. No work that would be more appropriate in the Home Arts or Hobby Hall Departments. Artist will be responsible for handling heavier pieces.
Computer Art:
Two-dimensional art created partially or totally through the use of a computer. Components such as photos and graphics should be the original work of the submitting artist. Eligible artwork may include photographs significantly enhanced by computer manipulations or by over-painting, drawing or other creative means. For purposes of judging, art work should be accompanied at the time of entry by a brief description of the general techniques and programs utilized, including printing process and hand applied enhancements.
Miniature:
All mediums accepted in the above categories. Maximum size is 35 square inches outside frame measurement. Miniatures must have hangers. All Miniatures must be for sale. No pieces priced over $200 will be accepted.
The instructions include:
1. Fill out all entry forms and make checks payable to the Western Washington Fair Association (WWFA). Check must accompany artwork at time of entry.
2. Each artist may enter two (2) pieces of art in each category.
3. Entry fee is $5 per piece, non-refundable. Miniatures: one or two pieces for $5.
4. For security purposes minimum frame size, except miniatures, is 11” x 14”. Maximum frame size is 5’ x 6’. Miniatures larger than 35 square inches cannot be accepted. Miniatures are displayed in locked cases.
5. Pictures must be suitably and sturdily framed. Use picture wire only for hanging. No string. No clamp plastic or glass frames. Metal frames must also have wires. Sawtooth hangers accepted only on miniatures. “Gallery Wrapped” canvases must be suitably painted and free of nails and/or staples.
6. Watercolors, pastels, drawings, and prints including non-preserved computer prints must be under glass or transparent plastic. Due to the weight and fragility of glass, transparent plastic preferred for larger frames. Only sturdy metal frames holding glass can be accepted.
7. Art must have been done within the last three years and not have been accepted previously.
8. Award winners will be notified by mail prior to the Fair start date.
9. Artists must be 18 years of age or older.
10. Original art work only may be entered. Copies from published sources, copyrighted materials or non-original photographs will be cause for removal from show and forfeiture of awards. No work done under specific instructor guidance will be accepted.
